Six

April 22, 2011

My little Oliver turns six years old today! That’s 42 in puppy years, if you’re keeping track.

We’ve gone from having a little tornado that destroyed countless pairs of shoes to a snuggler who makes lots of old man noises now. My heart swell with love when I look at you, Smaliver.

(I call him Smaliver because he’s both small and named Oliver. Other random nicknames include Lazy Face, Poopie and Oli, of course.)

Look how he licks those lips when he sees the bone! He goes on a hiding frenzy whenever he gets “Extra-Special Bone!”

These are some of my favorite snapshots of him:

The spooky mantel

November 5, 2010

I figured I should post some pics of the mantel before it gets taken down. I don’t know if it was really all that spooky, but I grabbed found objects around the apartment and outside to create a festive little Fall fireplace.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

I used two branches from outside, some brass vintage candle sticks and even a picture of my Grandma! I don’t think she’s all that spooky, but it did the trick.

I had some of themed books like The Oath (why do I own this?) and threw them in, along with a gourd and some pumpkins for good measure. I think I’ll leave it up until after Thanksgiving, if the pumpkins make it that long.

PS: This is the real fireplace. The first photo is a Photoshopped job on what I’m hoping it will look like once I’ve painted it, whenever that day happens.

PPS: Sorry for all the pics of Mr. Spencer. I think he balanced out the decor, but I also think he’s the cutest thing ever, especially when he yawns. Which is often.

Leg up.

July 29, 2010

We leave Texas in four days. I was planning on writing up some really fun and witty posts on things to do, and see, and eat in Dallas before I left. It was going to be awesome.

The thing is, every time I set out to do these things, I never had a camera with me. Or if I did, photos were not snapped. So I will leave here with nothing shared, no insights of Big D wisdom to part with.

Except this. These are my cat’s legs. He LOVES having a yard. And I’m taking that away from him and it makes me kinda sad. But aren’t they just the cutest little legs ever? I’m pretty sure he’d prefer me over a patch of grass anyway, right?

Summer Do

April 8, 2010

Oliver got his annual shave and a haircut last week over at the Petropolitan. They treat him so good.

He decided to show off when I was making the bed.

But seriously, if you live in the Dallas downtown area, take your pooch there pronto! Oliver tends to chill in the Oprah Room for the day before he gets the cut.

And yes, you read that correctly. Oprah Room.

The Daily Grind

November 16, 2009

I would gander to say that is is what Oliver and Spencer to with 90 percent of their day …

Something to the effect of napping in the warmth of the sun, barking at other dogs through the window (because clearly they will hear your jealous yelps, four flights down) and a typical stare-off.

Spencer FTW! (The one on the right. Yes, the fat cat.)

Happy Birthday Oliver Bean!

Oliver, Daniel and myself at his one-year-old birthday party at White Rock Lake.

I can’t believe that Oliver turns four today. It seems like just yesterday when we picked him out of a crowd of scrappy pups.

You bring joy to my little world each day and I love you, Bugger Boo!

beforeafter-header

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’m on a redecorating kick. I’ve really been enjoying it. (Especially in the bedroom, for some reason.) It feels nice to have new things and a weight being lifted, as the old leaves ship. Maybe it’s a cleansing or something, or maybe I’m just a shopping addict. Quite frankly, tt’s most likely the latter. :)

Well, it turns out redecorating is expensive!

And in these economic times (and I mean literally I’ve been quite affected) I’m on a bigger budget than I’ve realized. So I’m being resourceful and getting tips from my favorite blogs like Apartment Therapy, Design*Sponge, Making It Lovely and my favorite, Door Sixteen.

These ladies can often transform something ordinary into something quite unique. And it reminds me of how creative I was back in my high school and college days, where Grandma would give me some ’80s gold-leafed candlestick holder and I would go to town and paint it some funky color with my leftovers from art class.

In any case, I was at the store and wondered into the paint aisle, where all of the pretty colors seemed so appealing. Just as I thought, “I want to go to there,” I ended up with these in my basket:

Later in the day, I was trying to figure out what to do with them while taking Oliver out for a quick walk and found some ’80s gold-leafed lamp and thought, “Um … destiny!”

I grabbed the Blue Ocean Breeze spray paint, which I’ve classically dubbed ‘Tiffany Blue,’ as it goes quite well with my new duvet cover I picked up at Ikea a month or some ago. I even found a random box by the trash shoot (also Ikea … weird!) and used it to cover my patio furniture as I painted away.

I ended up with this:

The shade is from another lamp I had on the nightstand and isn’t really what I want to use, but it will do for now. You also might notice that I broke down and bought four Orla Kiely Coasters, because darlings, no matter how messy I can be, “Coaster Rule” is always in effect at Kristina’s casa.

Peace and love!

Whenever I log into WordPress, Spencer immediately decides to take a nap on my keyboard. I think he might be bored by my blogging.

A surprise at my door

Oh Oliver!

You will be four years old in less than three months, yet you act like the same crazy puppy I spontaneously brought home.

Thanks for destroying yet another pair of shoes, silly dog. Somehow though, it puts a smile on my face.
